ROME, FEB. 23, 2003 (Zenit.org).- Police in Pushkin, near St. Petersburg, canceled the visa of a Polish Catholic priest and gave him two weeks to leave the country, Vatican Radio reported.
Father Bronislaw Czaplicki, from the Archdiocese of Katovice, has been working for 10 years in the Russian Federation, the station said Saturday.
Up until now he was parish priest in Pushkin, professor at the St. Petersburg Seminary, and president of the Ecclesiastical Commission for 20th Century Catholic Martyrs in Russia.
This is the latest in a series of expulsions that began after John Paul II established four Catholic dioceses in Russia last February. The most prominent one expelled was Bishop Jerzy Mazur of St. Joseph of Irkutsk.
