VATICAN, Oct 29, 01 (CWNews.com) - As the Synod of Bishops closed on October 27, Cardinal Jan Schotte, the secretary general of the Synod, made public the names of the bishops who will serve on a post-synodal council. They are:

From Africa: - Cardinal Francis Arinze, president of the Pontifical Council for Inter- Religious Dialogue; - Archbishop John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan of Abuja, Nigeria; and - Archbishop Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya of Kisangani, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

From the Americas: - Cardinal Francis George, of Chicago; - Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, of Buenos Aires; and - Cardinal Claudio Hummes, of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

From the Pacific: - Archbishop Orlando Quevedo, of Cotabato, the Philippines; - Archbishop Henry Sebastian D'Souza of Calcutta; and - Archishop George Pell of Sydney, Australia.

From Europe - Cardinal Godfried Danneels of Brussels; - Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi of Genoa; and - Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity.

Also, three bishops were nominated to the post-synodal council by Pope John Paul. They are: - Cardinal Lubomyr Husar of Lviv, the Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Church; - Archbishop Henryk Muszynski of Gniezno, Poland; and Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera, of Mexico City.
